Dear Ecobytes users,
The company we rent some of our servers from in Germany has told us they
are moving one of the servers to a new building tomorrow night
(Thursday, 25th February). The server in question is called "polecat",
and it is the server that does most of our website hosting. It will be
offline between the following times:
Start of downtime:
Thursday 25th 1:15pm PST (Vancouver)
Thursday 25th 4:15pm EST (Toronto)
Thursday 25th 9:15pm GMT (UK)
Thursday 25th 10:15pm CET (Central Europe)
End of downtime:
Thursday 25th 10:30pm PST
Friday 26th 1:30am EST
Friday 26th 6:30am GMT
Friday 26th 7:30am CET
Hopefully the downtime will be shorter than that, but there is no way
to know for sure.
NOTE: email service will *not* be affected by this downtime, as email
is on a different server. (Mailing lists, and list archives will also
still be available.)
If you want to check whether your website is actually hosted on
polecat, you can check here: http://ecobytes.net/iplookup - just put in
the website address, and it will tell you where it is hosted.
We apologise for any inconvenience this causes, but unfortunately it
is outside of our control. This will be our first major downtime we
have had in a couple of years. The move is taking place overnight local
time, although I realise that is still not convenient for all our users
outside Europe.
We hope to be able to configure many of the websites to display a
temporary notice during the downtime, explaining that the site is
offline; however this won't be possible for sites where we do not
control the DNS.
If you have any questions about this, or if the downtime is going to
cause any major problems, please reply directly to this address
(support at ecobytes.net) and we will do what we can to address any
concerns or find a temporary work-around.
Thanks,
Matthew (on behalf of the Meinhard, Bata, and the Ecobytes Team)
